We recently installed a Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator in a condominium complex in Arlington VA. Installing home elevators in condos is a unique challenge—one that Signature Elevators & Accessible Design is familiar with and knows how to approach. All 44 units in this block are two-story penthouse units, including the owner’s, which was a penthouse that was on the top two floors. Installing a Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator seemed to be the right approach to address this client’s concerns, but it also presented a unique challenge that we were proud to have overcome.
In this case, the owner absolutely loved the two-story apartment that overlooks much of Arlington. It was understandably the case that moving wasn’t an option, but getting a home elevator in a penthouse such as this is a difficult challenge. Avoiding the circular staircase that joined the two floors was the ultimate goal; by installing a Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator, the client was once again able to freely enjoy the full space they had invested in when they initially purchased this beautiful two-story penthouse apartment.
When looking for a space-saving solution that can fit in a compact home such as this, we often opt for a Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator. In this case, we went with the PVE37 model, which is a two-passenger elevator that can fit in virtually any home. It doesn’t take up nearly as much space as traditional home elevators because it doesn’t require a machine room, pit, or hoist way.
