Three Common Questions About Stair Lifts

Below are some answers to three of the most common stair lift questions.

It can be difficult to make a big investment for your home such as installing a stair lift, and you probably have a lot of questions. Whether you reside in Fulton, Highland, Clarksville, Ellicott City, Glenwood or surrounding areas in Howard County, with the right information, you can find a stair lift that’s the perfect fit for you. Below are some answers to three of the most common stair lift questions.

Will it Fit?

Straight stair lifts are the standard for most houses, but you might be concerned if you have an unusually narrow or curved staircase. But don’t worry, stair lifts can be customized to fit any type of staircase. In fact, curved stair lifts are actually pretty common, and the installation process won’t be much more expensive for a standard stair lift unless you need a custom stair lift. And if you are concerned about your staircase being too narrow, a stair lift chair can be folded against the wall when not in use. If you are concerned about weight limits, then you can have a larger custom seat. But stair lifts can be made to hold up to four to six hundred pounds.

How Does it Work?

A stair lift will be mounted directly into your home’s staircase for the utmost stability. There are added supports at intervals along with every few steps to make sure that it will stay secure. The stair lift is powered by your home electricity and should be plugged in with a regular outlet. But if you’re concerned about getting stuck during a power outage, stair lifts also have a battery backup system that lets it continue making trips up and down the stairs upwards of forty times. Lastly, stair lifts also have a call and send button, that will move the chair without a rider, which means you won’t get caught in the unlucky circumstance of being without your stair lift.

What About Cost?

Most stair lifts will range in price from three to five thousand dollars for a standard or simple curved model. But custom stair lifts can become more expensive and over ten thousand dollars. Generally, insurance such as Medicare will not pay for a stair lift. But there are some insurance providers that will cover part of the cost.
